Anyone Diagnosed With Cancer Start Eating These 8 Foods Immediately

Cancer is a scary disease. Many of us have been affected by it whether distantly or up close. The repercussions of cancer have touched the lives of millions. For those who are at risk or have already been diagnosed, there a feeling of helplessness.

“What can I do about this? How can I protect myself?”

The answer is simpler than you think. As science develops in this area, researchers have discovered seven foods with the capabilities to inhibit cancer naturally. They are commodities you probably already have in your kitchen and by incorporating them more into your meals, you are saving yourself from cancer.

What is Cancer?
A critical role in cancer is angiogenesis, which is the process to create new blood cells. This process is controlled by chemical signals in the body. The signals prompt the repair of damaged blood vessels and the productions of new blood vessels. The chemical signals that foil this process are called angiogenesis inhibitors. In a healthy body, the productions and the inhibiting effects of these two chemical signals are balanced, causing the blood vessels to form only as needed. (1)

Tumors need a blood supply to grow, so it stimulates the signal for angiogenesis. This blood vessel production feeds the tumor the nutrients and oxygen it needs to metastasize, spreading through the body. (2)

Why Would These Foods Help?
The following seven foods are natural angiogenesis inhibitors, called antiangiogenic agents. They interfere with the process of metastasizing, blocking the formation of new blood vessels that are supporting the tumor, thus starving it. Scientists claim that this can prevent, slow, or even stop cancer. (3)

The Foods:
Green Tea
The polyphenol catechins in this tea contain chemopreventive and antiangiogenic abilities, in addition to being a potent antioxidant. Studies have shown drinking 2-3 cups of green tea a day inhibited the stimulated angiogenic signals by 70%, and reduced the tumor cell invasion by 50%. (4)

Resveratrol Supplements
Resveratrol is a natural phytoalexin (which plants use to inhibit parasites) and polyphenol (which acts as an antioxidant) (5). Therefore, resveratrol inhibits angiogenesis. (6) Consult your pharmacist when purchasing these supplements to ensure the dose is correct for your height and weight to achieve full potency. (7)

Tomatoes
Lycopene is the natural pigment in tomatoes that gives them their bright red color. It is also an angiogenesis inhibitor. In a study that included over 51, 000 men found there was a 23% risk reduction for those who had two servings of tomato sauce a week. (8)

Turmeric
Turmeric has a chemopreventive and antiangiogenic ability, and it inhibits carcinogenesis in stomach, liver, skin, and intestines. In one research, the subjects who consumed 4 g/day of turmeric had a 40% reduction in the number of premalignant markers in cancer. (9)

Blueberries
A study from Rutger University proves that a 1 ½ cups of blueberries per day can reduce the rate of pre-cancerous lesions by 57%. This is due to the antioxidant in these miraculous berries called pterostilbene. (10)

Curry
Molecules in curry have been found to kill cells in esophagus and bowel cancer. (11) They attack the cancer cells within 24 hours of the curry being consumed. (12)  Scientists are researching this spice more in-depth as a potential cancer cure. (13)It would be beneficial for you to incorporate it into your cooking, or consider taking it as a supplement.

Raw Cacao
The flavanol ingredient in cacao beans is an antioxidant that reduces damage done to cells. Cancer is developed from such damaged cells.  (14)  Cacao is filled with potent antioxidant flavonols, proanthocyanidins, and polyphenols, all of which help to slow the growth of cancer cells. (15) Add it to smoothies or healthy baked goods for a cancer-fighting dessert.

Medicinal Mushrooms
Phellinus linteus (aka “black hoof”) is a medicinal mushroom native to East Asia (Japan, China, and Korea). Scientists have compared its anti angiogenesis and antioxidant properties to vitamin C, a known powerful scavenger of free radicals. A 2003 study showed an extract of phellinus linteus had significant anti-tumor effects. Black hoof extracts can be purchased in powder or oil form.

Another medicinal mushroom, ganoderma (aka lingzi mushroom), long used in traditional Chinese medicine, has also been found to show promising anti-cancer properties. This 2003 scientific review summarizes key findings in cancer prevention, enhanced immune function, and and anti-tumor activity. This mushroom also improves health when taken alongside other cancer medications. This mushroom is not safe to use if you have an autoimmune disease.

Garlic
Garlic contains over 200 biologically active compounds, like sulfur-containing amino-acids, glutathione and cysteine, all of which have protective functions against cancer formation, growth and metastasis. Strong evidence exists that shows how garlic is effective against cancers of the gastrointestinal tract including gastric, colorectal, and esophageal cancers (16).

There are a few mechanisms by which garlic eradicates cancer cells:
1) It inhibits nitrosamines and heterocyclic amines (HCA), dietary carcinogens that arise during preservation and cooking (17).
2) It effectively blocks the bio-activation and carcinogenicity of non-nitrosamines/HCAs (18).
3) The compounds present in garlic have the ability to suppress proliferation of a wide variety of cancer cells by stopping cell cycle progression and/or inducing apoptosis (cell death) (19).
4) It possesses strong antimicrobial properties, which has an inhibitory effect against Heliobacter pylori (colonization of this bacteria in our gut is linked with gastritis and a greater chance of developing gastric cancer later in life) (20).
5) It contains strong antioxidant properties, which prevents oxidative damage and thus reduces the risk of DNA mutations, which ultimately lead to cancer growth (21).
6) Reduces inflammation in the body, which is a huge trigger for cancer cell growth (22).
7) Possesses immuno-modulatory effects, which essentially improves our immune system and its fight against cancer (23).

Soursop
This tropical fruit, also known as graviola or guanabana, has a spiny green texture on the outside and sweet tangy flesh on the inside. It is abundant in Central and South America, and tastes truly delicious (I made sure to eat as much as I could while I lived in Costa Rica for four months).

Scientists with the Tepic Institute of Technology in Mexico discovered acetogenins in soursop, which possess strong chemotherapeutic properties. Soursop’s beneficial effects aren’t new – in 1996, a study published in the Journal of Natural Products found Compound 1 (one of five extracted from the seed of the graviola fruit) was “selectively cytotoxic to colon adenocarcinoma cells (HT-29) in which it was 10,000 times the potency of adriamycin (24).” Adriamycin is a toxic chemotherapy drug that comes with life-threatening side effects.

In 2011, another study was published, which revealed highly promising research on graviola and breast cancer. Researchers found that graviola fruit extract (GFE) suppressed so-called oncogene (cancer-causing gene) expression in the cell and animal models of breast cancer (25).

While this fruit is difficult to find in North America, I have been successful in finding it fresh at Asian food stores.

Antioxidant-Rich Fruit
Flavonoid-rich berries like currants, cranberries, cherries, hawthorn berries, elderberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries are well-known cancer-fighters. Blueberries contain a compound called pterostilbene, which triggers apoptosis (self-destruction) in lung, stomach, pancreatic and breast cancer cells (14).

Raspberries contain a compound called ellagic acid (present in most berries, but highest in raspberries), which inhibits the genesis of tumours and slows the growth rate of pre-malignant cancerous cells (15).

If you’re looking to include more berries in your diet, make a berry-rich smoothie for breakfast! It’ll energize you instead of bog you down, and also infuse your body with cancer-fighting nutrients.

Stay Healthy
Including these seven foods into a healthy diet is a well-balanced combat for cancer. Don’t forget to prepare them in a way you enjoy. Fighting cancer has never tasted so good.

Mesothelioma Cancer
Mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive form of cancer that develops in the lining of the lungs, abdomen, or heart. Caused by asbestos, mesothelioma has no known cure and has a very poor prognosis.

According to a 2017 report by the Centers for Disease Control, 2,400 – 2,800 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma in the United States each year. People who have worked with or been exposed to asbestos have the highest risk of developing mesothelioma. After being exposed to asbestos, mesothelioma symptoms can take 20 – 50 years to appear.

The life expectancy for mesothelioma patients is poor, as there is no cure for the disease. The stage of the disease, cell type, and location of the tumor(s) are the most important factors for a patient’s survival. Factors such as the patient’s overall health, age, and whether the cancer has spread also impact prognosis.

After receiving a mesothelioma diagnosis, there are a number of vital decisions that must be made. The Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance is dedicated to providing patients with the best resources available on current treatment, stories of survival and hope, and financial assistance.
Types of Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is most commonly classified by the location in the body where it develops. Specifically, the cancer forms in the lining of certain organs or spaces within the body, known as the mesothelium. Mesothelioma typically develops in one of three specific areas.
Diagnosing Mesothelioma Symptoms
Mesothelioma symptoms can take 20 – 50 years to appear after the first exposure to asbestos. The signs of mesothelioma often look like those of other diseases, which can lead to misdiagnosis. When someone exhibits mesothelioma symptoms, doctors perform a variety of tests to rule out other diseases. It normally takes weeks or months for doctors to arrive at an accurate mesothelioma diagnosis.
Upon diagnosis, the doctor will categorize the disease into one of four stages. While there are several staging systems, the TNM System — which stands for tumor, lymph nodes, and metastasis — is the most commonly used.

Common Symptoms of Mesothelioma
Trouble breathing or chest pain.
Effusion (fluid buildup) in the lungs or abdomen.
Anemia (especially in women).
Nausea / vomiting.
Loss of weight.
Upon diagnosis, the doctor will categorize the disease into one of four stages. While there are several staging systems, the TNM System — which stands for tumor, lymph nodes, and metastasis — is the most commonly used.

Four Stages of Mesothelioma
STAGE
1
The mesothelioma tumor is located in only one area and has not spread to other parts of the body.

STAGE
2
A large tumor may have progressed to nearby areas and/or the lymph nodes, but has not gone on any further.

STAGE
3
Tumors have typically spread beyond the local area to several nearby locations and the lymph nodes.

STAGE
4
The tumors have spread into multiple areas and throughout the lymphatic system, invading other organs throughout the body.

Typically, Stage 1 and Stage 2 mesothelioma can be treated effectively with surgery and other forms of therapy. However, Stage 3 and Stage 4 mesothelioma are often treated palliatively.

Treating Mesothelioma
Treatment for mesothelioma is similar to other types of cancer. The most common treatments are surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Newer treatments are being studied as part of clinical trials and may be available for some patients who do not respond to conventional therapies.

In some cases, treatment can improve a patient’s prognosis, extending his/her life significantly. Treatment can also be used palliatively to reduce pain and discomfort caused by the symptoms of mesothelioma.
